This is the first actual drawing I've done using oil pastels -- I didn't really have an idea of how to use them until I observed Jim's technique. As I kid I would always use oil pastels to create scratch drawings. You scribble with color all over the page and then cover it thickly with black. Then you can take something sharp and draw by scratching away the black. That was the extent of my experience with oil pastels prior to this.
