Professional Experience

Web Designer & Developer, (Agency Contractor) Windows International Group, Microsoft — March 2002 to Present

¨       Community Glossary Project:  Actively contributed to the product design, product development, and launch of the Community Glossary web tool. Wrote parts of the functional spec, created the graphic design, and built the Web project front-end as a core member of the team. This v.1 project provides an inexpensive method for creating IT terminology glossaries for small and emerging markets worldwide, so that Microsoft can more easily create localized products and LIPs and increase international market share. Now working with the team on v.2 spec and features based on project moderator and user feedback requests. This task involved the use of Visual Studio.NET, ASP.NET, VBScript, CSS, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe ImageReady.

¨       Winworld:  Designed and built the Winworld group portal and related sites such as LLT, Winlocz, Localizability, and LIP.  Also designed and created custom artwork and SharePoint themes for other group sites in Windows International, including Typography, UA Localization, and WIT.  Manager feedback is that I exceeded the goal of creating an exciting, professional, and unified look for Windows International sites—a look that reflects a variety of international cultures, both modern and traditional. The site designs have been very popular and received enthusiastic feedback. Clarity, consistency, and ease of use have also been greatly improved on redesigned sites. This task involved the use of Macromedia HomeSite, ASP, VBScript, JavaScript, CSS, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe ImageReady, and Windows SharePoint Services (WSS).

¨       LIP Getting Started Guide: Built and designed the HTML version of (and created graphics for) the LIP Getting Started Guide, with an eye to flexibility in online viewing and printing and ease of localization. Assisted with text editing. This task involved the use of Macromedia HomeSite, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe ImageReady.

¨       Creekside UI:  Currently assigned as the Creekside UI Designer. So far I have created custom shell designs for the Creekside demo that provide a level of polish and professionalism to the alpha project and visually demonstrate what it is that the team is building.

¨       Creekside Logo:  Designed and created the Creekside logo and related project materials.  The logo met the goals of being consistent with the Longhorn logo (Longhorn is a cousin product) and evoking the scrappiness, speed, and bravery of the Pony Express, which our team seeks to emulate.

¨       Miscellaneous Design Tasks:  Assisted with the research and planning of future webhosting solutions for the Windows International Group.  Completed many other graphic design, web development/maintenance, and writing/editing tasks, including designing banners for LocDay and the 2003 Company Meeting and assisting with the Glossary Project Whitepaper.

Web Designer & Developer, (Agency Contractor) T-Mobile — April 2002 to March 2003

¨       Built and maintained sections of several different T-Mobile web sites, on both the Internet and intranet.  Was the developer/designer in charge of the Human Resources intranet site used by the entire company.  Vastly improved the efficiency and maintainability of existing site sections, in one case reducing a site section from at least 429 files to three files, by designing and building an ASP version of what had previously been flat HTML.  Trained new contractors on T-Mobile processes, site architecture, and development requirements.  Designed and created ads, site banners, site sections, templates, Flash animations, site navigation and layout, based on established style guides and input from business content owners and project managers.  Performed routine site maintenance, content updating, testing, and graphics production.  These tasks involved the use of ASP, VBScript, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, DHTML, VSS, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe ImageReady, Macromedia Flash, and proprietary site deployment tools.
